Scientist uses vision boarding to vault a dead end and achieve a much-desired breakthrough.
Successful start
“My lifetime career has always been associated with science and technology. After a 1st in Chemistry and a PhD in Physical Chemistry, I spent 15 years in technical management for a large multinational company. But I was always a bit different to other scientists. Rather than rely on standard experimental evidence, I was always ready to think outside the box.
“When my job was made redundant I breathed a sigh of relief and spent the next 15+ years as a technical entrepreneur. I set up a number of successful companies and found my raison d’être. I chose to retire early to pursue interests I couldn’t schedule time for easily, namely exercise and running to extend the rest of my life by keeping fit. I ran many half-marathons and the London Marathon once.
Tragic downturn
“So far so good … but then other aspects of life did not turn out so well for me. I lost my wife to cancer. I found and lost love again. I nearly lost my only daughter and granddaughter during a difficult, traumatic birth. In between times I’d moved house several times yet found I couldn’t settle. It was a shock to realise I was struggling to cope with life, had become indecisive, and had lost some good friends. Counselling didn’t help and I wasn’t sure which way to turn next.
“I came across Mary and working with her has been a breath of fresh air.
“First we used Feng Shui to prepare my almost-new house for sale and to prepare me for moving on to an environment more suitable. When the Estate Agent visited he said the house looked and felt wonderful, like a show house. And it sold easily during the pandemic.
“After this it seemed a natural progression to attend Mary’s Intuitive Vision Board Workshop courtesy of Zoom. I was ready to explore what new options were available to me and which direction to go in. I must admit I was full of trepidation. How would this work? Would I be judged? Where might it lead?
Vision boarding
“The first thing we did was a guided meditation. This calmed me down and I felt like I was warming up for a race. We then loosened up the right-brain further by constructing two installations using everyday objects. I hadn’t a clue what I was doing but I was fascinated to see that, what I made in double quick time without sparing a moment to think about it, looked like a rocket launcher.
“While driving through Kent countryside a week later, I spotted several oast houses with identical profiles to my rocket launcher. I was intrigued. Was I being prompted to build the ‘grand design’ house I’d always wanted to create. A week later driving through Kent again I spotted a poster for a Dutch kit house construction company based there. I loved their eco designs and I’m now keen to build a new home using them. I was astounded by the synchronicity.
“The collation of the vision board itself became a lot easier having done the installation exercise. Time was well spent skimming through magazines and allowing the pictures to jump off the page and onto a highly individualised collage. My left-brain struggled to understand why I’d chosen certain images yet I felt secure in the knowledge that my right-brain had selected them intuitively and time would tell.
In-depth coaching
“The follow-up coaching session with Mary was the perfect moment to identify the patterns, the symbols, and relationship between the images, which would have been impossible to fathom out on my own. I’m still learning about my IVB and what it all means but I have no doubt that more unforeseen events will occur as a consequence of making it.
“I have never met a coach quite like Mary. She lit the blue touch paper and whoosh, I have sparked into life. I am a completely rejuvenated 67 year old who feels like he has reversed the direction of time.
“Her direct and open approach has encouraged my unique qualities to come to the fore and be applied in new ways so I can look to the future with courage and confidence. Not because I know what is going to happen – I don’t. But because I sincerely feel my creative energy is alive in me once more and I am equipped to handle whatever comes my way.”
