Transforming a garden room into a working space with Feng Shui suitable for coaching, counselling or as a therapy room.

After the pandemic transforming her garden room into a working space with Feng Shui was top of Caroline’s list of priorities.  She’d been driven to distraction during lockdowns by home schooling two boys and a husband working from home and let many things slide.  And now, with the greater part of Covid behind her, she was faced with the daunting task of putting her domestic and working life back together again.

Caroline’s story …

I am a Relationship Coach and I conduct therapy sessions in a space I call the Garden Room because, well, it’s in the garden!  Like many after the last few Covid years I was feeling drained and blinkered.  With a strong desire and need to improve my workspace yet the effort felt too much and I realised I wouldn’t be able to transform it into a vibrant therapy room without help.

Mary helped me overhaul this room that had become a dumping ground into one that’s  entirely suitable for its purpose.  A space I now love to work in and feel proud to bring my clients here.  I’m sharing the highlights of what we did and why to give you some insights into what Feng Shui is all about in a practical way.

Zoom

The room where I see clients had changed beyond recognition. We’d installed a table and an office chair for Zoom meetings but this had changed the feel of the space completely and it no longer felt like a sanctuary.  With my husband’s paperwork building up and mine too, we had little time spare to sort it out whilst also juggling home-schooling and work.

It was time to get someone else’s perspective and professional support. Having always been interested in Feng Shui, I booked a session with Mary. I’d made several vision boards with her on previous occasions and felt confident of her professional approach.

Grand entrance

My initial surprise was that Mary focused first on the area leading in from where clients parked their car all the way to – and including – the outside of the garden room, as much as on the room itself.  We moved outdoor furniture, storage, garden materials and tools around together and immediately the walkway became much clearer and more welcoming too.  I still have a few tasks Mary advised me to do that I haven’t quite got around to yet but already there is a noticeable difference.

Layout

Mary advised on a different layout for the room itself. We rearranged bookcases, furniture and particularly where I sit in relation to clients when they visit. All these changes were made with reference to the Bagua map they use in Feng Shui. Given the nature of my work, Mary pointed out that the ‘relationship corner’ is a very important area in the room and why I should occupy the ‘power spot’ in it.

Neither had I realised I’d been lighting candles regularly in the Wealth corner, burning my wealth away!  Now I light them elsewhere – particularly in the Fame/Reputation area.  Every time I put them away, I remember not to store them in the Wealth corner too.

In repositioning a very over-full bookcase, I was advised to take the opportunity to go through all my books.  By releasing some and rearranging others has created even more space and less density in the room.

Colours

Mary’s understanding of colour vibration and how it supports the purpose of the space was particularly helpful.  We applied this in repositioning the original art I had on the walls.

I was already back doing some face-to-face work before the Feng Shui transformation.  Since implementing the changes I notice how much happier I feel about bringing clients into my therapeutic space.  Movement and body work has flowed more easily since the consultation. It’s not just with the increased space on the floor but the feeling of more space all-round.

It is wonderful to feel more grounded and calm when I receive clients into my dedicated room.  It feels like the environment is supporting me rather than being a distraction I have to manage.”   Caroline Burr, Your Relationship Coach
